Why a new home needs clean cans, and what we do

Why it matters on move-in

A move fills a can fast. Packing paper, old food, cleaning supplies and the contents of a fridge all end up in the same cart in the first week. Starting with a can that already smells makes the whole house smell worse sooner.

You also do not know how the last owner treated the cans. Years of bags, spills and summer heat leave a layer of residue on the walls and under the rim that no hose rinse removes. Fly eggs can also sit in the hinge of a can that was left outside through a hot summer.

Cans are the one household item you handle with a lid closed, so a problem is easy to miss. Cleaning them once at the start gives you a clean baseline for as long as you live there. It is a small cost at a time when you are already buying boxes, tape and a truck.

What we do on the visit

We lift each can onto our cleaning rig and wash the inside and outside with 200-degree water. Heat that high removes old residue and kills fly eggs and larvae, which can be present in a can that sat unused or half full.

We clean the lid, hinge and wheels, then apply a biodegradable, hospital-grade sanitizer and a deodorizer. The wastewater is captured in the holding tank on our truck, not rinsed into the street. That means no mess on the driveway you just moved onto, and nothing running toward the storm drain.

We set the cans back where you keep them and text you a photo. You do not need to be home, which helps on moving week when you are already juggling a truck, a crew and a lot of boxes.

First week checklist

Set up your trash routine

  • Find your trash and recycling days before your first pickup.
  • Ask the previous owner or your hauler which carts belong to the home.
  • Break down and flatten moving boxes for recycling pickup.
  • Bag and tie trash before it goes in, so the can stays cleaner.
  • Move to a monthly plan after the first clean so it stays that way.

Who owns the can, and who to ask

We clean the cans left by the previous owners, and we clean any cans you bring. Before you book, it is worth finding out who owns the cart. In many places the cart is assigned to the address by the hauler, and in some communities it belongs to the HOA or the county. We do not know the rules for your street, so please ask.

Good places to check are your HOA or property manager, the city or town for your address (City of Myrtle Beach, City of Conway, City of North Myrtle Beach, Town of Surfside Beach or City of Loris), or the Horry County Solid Waste Authority for unincorporated areas. If a cart is damaged or missing, they can tell you how to request one. Do not move a cart that is tied to another address.

Not sure when pickup happens at your new address? Our guide to finding your trash day in Horry County explains where to look.

When to book and what it costs

The best time is the first trash day after you move in, when the cans have just been emptied and you have nothing in them. Book as soon as you have a move date and we will confirm a visit by text. We cover all of Horry County with the same prices everywhere, and there is no drive fee.

A one-time deep clean is $49 (sample) for the first can and $15 (sample) for each additional can. A recycling cart counts as an additional can. If you want to keep them clean, you can switch to a monthly plan at $25 (sample) for the first can. See all plans on the pricing page. There is no contract.

If something is not right when we leave, tell us within 48 hours and we come back and clean the cans again at no charge.

What we do not do

We do not haul away moving trash, remove old furniture or clear a garage. We clean the cans. If a cart is cracked, missing a lid or too damaged to hold a bag, we can still wash it, but you should ask your hauler about a replacement.

We also do not handle anything left inside by the previous owner. If a can has loose items inside, bag them and set them beside the can, and we put them back after the wash. Our wider residential trash can cleaning page covers every plan once you are settled in.

FAQ

Questions about move-in cleaning

No. Leave the cans at the curb after your first pickup and we handle the rest. We text you a photo when they are clean, which is handy during a move.

We need the cans at the curb on a trash day, after the hauler empties them. If you do not yet have access to the home, ask the seller, agent or property manager about the date first.

Yes. A recycling cart counts as an additional can on a one-time clean. Old drink residue is a common reason a cart smells after years of use.

We can still clean it, but we cannot repair or replace it. Contact your hauler, HOA or the Horry County Solid Waste Authority about a replacement cart.

Many new homeowners do. A monthly clean keeps the can fresh with no contract, and you can cancel any time by replying to a text or calling us.

Book once. We handle every trash day after that.

No contract. Cancel anytime from a text.
